She enjoys all aspects of her profession from deep tissue work to ease pain and restrictions to relaxing massage and spa treatments to soothe the mind, body and soul.  Brenda describes her style of massage as "eclectic" and clients can enjoy restorative healing with elements of reiki, intuitive healing and muscular reset.

Brenda's client satisfaction is extremely high.  She is an intuitive healer who seeks balance and harmony within the body.  Her clients return for repeated work and muscular/structural and nervous system balance.

Here clients RAVE about her work:

"I travel for business and consider myself a spa and massage snob. I have never had quite the experience I've had with the massage therapist team here - they are top notch. Deep tissue and therapeutic massage is transformed into an invigorating and muscle stress relieving session that works out all kinks, pain and tightness. I cannot tell you how many times I've felt let down after a massage, but within minutes - pains and muscle tightness was identified by these intuitive massage therapists and reset by these skilled hands. I walked out floating and literally had to take a few minutes to regroup before I went on my way. The rooms are spectacular as well- the decor enhances the sense of peace, relaxation and healing. This experience was definitely fun."

"I also see Brenda for deep tissue massage and between both the massage and accupuncture I am feeling much better. My back and neck have not been this loose and relaxed in years and the pain is gone. They also have shown me exercises to do to keep me from falling back into the problems which caused all the pain. What a great place."

"Such a fantastic hot stone massage! Great job Brenda! Thank you!"

Benefits of Chemical Peels - How Often to Get a Peel

More than 5000 years ago, the Egyptians used a form of chemical peeling. They understood the value of lactic acid from milk and various fruit acids for skin conditioning. Thus, when Cleopatra relaxed in her milk bath, she was actually undergoing a chemical peel. Chemical peeling is basically an accelerated exfoliation induced by a chemical agent. Glycolic and Lactic Acid peels are light, safe, nontoxic, and generally have very few complications. Every day human skin undergoes the normal process of sloughing older dead skin cells. In there place, newer cells have traveled up through the layers of skin. Chemical peels accelerate this process by resurfacing the stratum corneum which stimulates epidermal growth, which makes the epidermis thicken. Secondly, chemical peels cause necrosis, or destruction of damaged skin. Ideally, the damaged skin will be replaced with healthier, normalized tissue by means of the skin's healing process.

Chemical peels may be performed repeatedly over time, a series of 6 to 8 treatments , performed weekly, will progressively improve skin texture, pigment, brightness and tone, and often control many types of acne. For clients looking for an intensified boost, most complexions can tolerate an 8-week series twice a year. Also excellent as part of a monthly maintenance facial.

Peels improve the texture of the skin and increase hydration. Peeling also improves the barrier function, moisture retention, elastin and collagen production, reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, and surface pigmentation. After treatments, skin looks and feels smoother and softer.

Liposuction Lymphatic Drainage Massage to Minimize Swelling, Promote Healing & Reduce Scarring

Post Operative Care for Liposuction

At Healthy Being by Melissa, we specialize in a post operative recovery therapy that is extremely effective for our clients who have recently had liposuction. We see our clients within days of their liposuction and begin the process of healing that is required for them to get back to their daily activities. After a series of treatments, clients report reduction of swelling, ease of movement and allows our clients to get out of their compression garments for good!

After liposuction, there are two components that cause the swelling, the pocketing of fluid common on the flanks (sides of torso) and discomfort clients experience. The first is the extensive damage to the superficial lymphatic system that results in the pooling and production of excess fluid in the healing process. The second, is a large volume of blood-tinged tumescent anesthetic solution remaining trapped under the skin may slow postoperative recovery. Both of these factors require external treatment to aid in the reduction of fluid retention.
An area of expertise of Melissa Gallagher, Lymphatic Drainage Therapist (LDT), is providing Lymphatic Drainage Treatment for clients seeking post operative care for Liposuction. Melissa develops a specialized and individualized treatment plan for each client the includes lymphatic drainage treatments, herbal and homeopathic recommendations as well as activities and tools for clients to utilize at home in between treatments that will aid in and speed the recovery of their healing process. Often clients come in within days of their liposuction surgery and are in an intense amount of pain, swelling and bruising. Treatments of Lymphatic Drainage Therapy will speed the recovery time from liposuction and will get clients back to their normal work and personal routines.

What is Lymphatic Drainage Massage
This is a new method for post-liposuction care. It provides improved patient comfort, shortens the healing time, and decreases the number of postoperative visits to the surgeon. Electro Lymphatic Drainage is a modern technique that greatly reduces the degree of pain, swelling, bruising and convalescence time. The Lymphstar Pro is the tool Melissa uses in applications related to moving lymph and the detoxification or clearing of tissue as it relates to the lymphatic system. It incorporates light (photonic) and sound (harmonics) with noble gas ionization into a therapeutic system of outstanding effectiveness and versatility.

Traditional After-Liposuction Care MethodsTraditional After-Liposuction Care Methods rely on 1) the closure of incisions with sutures and 2) the prolonged use of high compression elastic garments for two weeks or more. Most liposuction surgeons would agree that these traditional methods of caring for patients after liposuction leave much room for improvement. The common undesirable characteristics of the healing phase after liposuction include protracted swelling, bruising, tenderness, as well as time-consuming post-operative follow-up visits with the surgeon.

Minimizing Swelling, Bruising, & TendernessSwelling, bruising, tenderness are the result of 1) persistent blood-tinged tumescent anesthetic solution trapped under the skin after liposuction, and 2) injury to subcutaneous lymphatic capillaries caused by the liposuction procedure. Lymphatic capillaries are small vessels that drain fluid away from injured body tissues. Temporary injury to lymphatic capillaries as a result of liposuction cannot be avoided. However the persistence of blood-tinged tumescent solution trapped under the skin can be prevented. Older techniques for post-liposuction care do not facilitate rapid drainage of this blood-tinged anesthetic solution. The newer technique known as "open drainage" diminishes the swelling and speeds recovery after tumescent liposuction.

Swelling occurs after liposuction during the healing process. There will always be some swelling after surgery, but taking the right steps will greatly reduce the amount of swelling and discomfort you will have.

Acupuncture to Reduce Stress and Minimize Pain at Healthy Being Wellness Center in St. Petersburg, Fl 33702 727-502-3464

Stress Relief with Acupuncture

Stress. We all have it to some degree. With today’s hectic lifestyle of work, family and social demands it is virtually impossible to avoid. The problem though is how we handle it once it starts to negatively affect us. At some point many of us have experienced stress physically. It may manifest as headaches, migraines, stomach pains, fatigue, body aches, poor appetite, irregular bowel patterns and even weight gain among other symptoms. Many times we will also have frustration, anger, irritability or even feelings of sadness or melancholy.

Modern medicine has shown us that stress leads to the release of adrenaline and cortisol which are hormones secreted by the adrenal glands. The release of small amounts of cortisol is crucial for good health. However prolonged elevated cortisol levels can have devastating effects on our health. Chronic stress can cause high levels and is associated with high blood pressure, a decrease in immune function, blood sugar imbalance, an impaired thyroid, a decrease in both muscle tissue and bone density, sleep disturbances, and a variety of digestive problems. Not surprisingly people often find themselves taking strong prescription medications to manage their stress and the effects it has on them.

So how can we manage stress effectively without the fear of side effects?

Unfortunately most of us do not have an effective and healthy way to cope with it. Thankfully Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), which includes acupuncture and herbal medicine, can be extremely effective for both physical and emotional symptoms. TCM tells us that chronic stress can significantly affect the flow of Qi (our own energy) in our bodies by slowing it down or even causing a blockage. A blockage or inhibition of Qi flow can lead to any of the above mentioned symptoms. A smooth and free flow is required to alleviate the symptoms. Both acupuncture and Chinese herbs can help us achieve and maintain that.

A trained and licensed acupuncturist can choose specific acupuncture points along certain meridians or pathways to remove the blockage and allow the body to return to its normal state. Chinese herbs can also play a significant role in treatment. Herbal formulas are extremely effecting in removing blockages as well as supporting the associated organs and body systems. Many times herbal remedies are prescribed with acupuncture treatments.

Let’s face it, we live in a stressful and chaotic society. Of course acupuncture and TCM will not eliminate those external stressors from our lives. However, it does provide an excellent approach to allow our minds and bodies a way to cope with the physical and emotional effects of the stress.
