Natural Heart Disease Treatment and Prevention Using Coenzyme Q10

While I was living in Japan, I learned of an amazing medical breakthrough that could radically impact the cardiovascular system. In the 1960s the Japanese used a related compound called Coenzyme Q7 in corgestive heart failure. The next decade theJapanese began producing pure CoQ10 in large quantities to be used to fight heart disease and congestive heart failure.

Coenzyme Q10, often called ubiquinone, is essentially a vitamin-like substance that can be found in almost every cell in the body. It is very often to get this amount through a daily dietary intake and it is suggested that individuals with periodontal disease, high blood pressure, heart disease and impaired immunity can benefit from the antioxidant activities of CoQ10.

Because of it 's strong interaction with free radicals, CoQ10 is known for its anti-aging benefits. It slows and can often reverse cellular aging by reducing free radical damage and protecting DNA, cellular membranes and various enzyme systems in the body.

What is really great about CoQ10 and the reason why I started to use it; it is considered bioenergetic. It greatly enhances the energy in the mitochondria ( the energy generator of our cells) and speeds up metabolic energy.

Taking CoQ10 has been proven to reverse heart disease, lower cholesterol and increase the energy levels of various individuals.

Suggested CoQ10 dosage:

30-100 mg daily: preventative in cardiovascular or periodontal disease and for patients taking Hmg-CoA reductase inhibitors

90-180 mg daily: treatment of angina pectoris, cardiac arrhythmia, high blood pressure and moderate gingival disease.

180-360mg: for congestive heart failure and dilated cardiomyoptahy.

**For a severly impaired immune system, as in cancer, even higher doses of CoQ10 may be required.

Colloidal Silver & Apple Cider Vinegar: Natural Remedy to Get Rid of Molluscum Contagiosum

As usual, I overheard a crazy statistic today that more young children are infected with molluscum contagiosum. The group of 17 teens who decided they all wanted to become pregnant brought up the alarming news statistic about the newest sexually transmitted disease. From athletes to teenagers -- this is a very serious viral skin condition that is often challenging to get rid of quickly. Luckily there is a quick and painless cure for molluscum contagiosum.

You can use apple cider vinegar. You can soak a cotton balll and put a bandaid over it. Leave it overnight. It will scab over. But eventually all will go away.

The other powerful cure is to use Colloidal Siver. You take it internally, (the normal dosage of colloidal silver is 2 tsps/day up to 10 days).

Also, take a bath in it with a few tablespoons of Colloidal Silver and apple cider vinegar -- a double wammy for the molluscum. After the bath, wet a cotton ball with the Colloidal Silver and rub over the Molluscum. It will not burn to keep those important areas safe!! Cured in 9 days!

To make sure it doesn't return, utilize immune enhancing and boosting products like cell forte, thuja and esberitox to aid in the success of the topical applications of colloidal silver and/or apple cider vinegar.

Dietary and Lifestyle Changes Can Alter Genetic Predisposition to Disease

I had heard on the news yesterday about a study based on dietary changes and increased exercise positively impacted and changed the genetic make up a small group of me. This is very fascinating as I've always thought that the environments we create in our lives directly impact our health more so than our gene. I wanted to share this article with our readers as it reinforces the need to eat healthy, exercise and keep our minds on a healthy, happy life.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Comprehensive lifestyle changes including a better diet and more exercise can lead not only to a better physique, but also to swift and dramatic changes at the genetic level, U.S. researchers said on Monday.

In a small study, the researchers tracked 30 men with low-risk prostate cancer who decided against conventional medical treatment such as surgery and radiation or hormone therapy.

The men underwent three months of major lifestyle changes, including eating a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes and soy products, moderate exercise such as walking for half an hour a day, and an hour of daily stress management methods such as meditation.

As expected, they lost weight, lowered their blood pressure and saw other health improvements. But the researchers found more profound changes when they compared prostate biopsies taken before and after the lifestyle changes.

After the three months, the men had changes in activity in about 500 genes -- including 48 that were turned on and 453 genes that were turned off.

The activity of disease-preventing genes increased while a number of disease-promoting genes, including those involved in prostate cancer and breast cancer, shut down, according to the study published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

The research was led by Dr. Dean Ornish, head of the Preventive Medicine Research Institute in Sausalito, California, and a well-known author advocating lifestyle changes to improve health.

"It's an exciting finding because so often people say, 'Oh, it's all in my genes, what can I do?' Well, it turns out you may be able to do a lot," Ornish, who is also affiliated with the University of California, San Francisco, said in a telephone interview.

"'In just three months, I can change hundreds of my genes simply by changing what I eat and how I live?' That's pretty exciting," Ornish said. "The implications of our study are not limited to men with prostate cancer."

Ornish said the men avoided conventional medical treatment for prostate cancer for reasons separate from the study. But in making that decision, they allowed the researchers to look at biopsies in people with cancer before and after lifestyle changes.

"It gave us the opportunity to have an ethical reason for doing repeat biopsies in just a three-month period because they needed that anyway to look at their clinical changes (in their prostate cancer)," Ornish said।

Ionized Detox Foot Baths: The Latest Craze in Detox

For a few years now I have been regularly going to a detox foot bath center. Up in Boston there was a great organization that offered 20 minute detox foot baths right in the heart of Boston on Newbury street. I'd frequent this location if I felt a cold coming on, perhaps had a few too many late nights out with alcohol or simply when I felt "toxic."

Either way, there is a whole new dimension to detoxing beyond detox supplements, fasting diets and colon cleansing. I am a huge fan of the detox foot bath as it is a physical representation of your own toxicity. Being a visual person and also passionate about natural health and wellness, I am still fascinated by the detox food bath and love seeing the minute particles of lead, lymph and yeast exit my own body.

If you are unfamiliar with detox foot baths- they are an interesting and pain free way to detoxify your entire system. They work on the premise that both negative and positive ionic charges help to rid the body of toxic waste.

Ionic Detox foot baths work by sending a small current that goes in a circuit through the body and generates positively charged ions. The high concentration of the ion field attaches to the negatively charged toxins neutralizing them and the body is then able to discard them through the approximate 2000 pores that are on the bottom of your feet. You can then experience the correct acid-alkaline ph balance as nature intended. It's painless and takes about 30 minutes. Even children ages 4 and up can safely use it under supervision.

People who should not use this foot bath are people with pace makers or who have organ transplants or expectant or nursing mothers.

Detox foot baths are extremely beneficial for the following 7 reasons:

1) Enhancing the immune system

2) Assist in recovery time from injuries and surgery

3) Can relieve pain and joint stiffness due to arthritis

4) Improves sleep pattern

5) Remove heavy metals

6) Removes blood clot material

7) Improve liver and kidney function

Probably the most fascinating aspect of this detox is that during the use of an ionic foot bath the color of the water changes. Literally, you witness the various toxins exiting your body. The various colors can tell you what area the body may be detoxing.

Black or brown water is the liver.

Orange; the joints.

Dark green; the gallbladder

Yellowy green; kidneys, urinary tract,

White foam; Lymph nodes draining

Blue tint; yeast

Red flecks; blood clot material

Black flecks; heavy metals

The color of the water may be different for each individual due to water you use such as city water, well water, mineral water and the state of your health. When you put the metal array into water by itself you may see color changes in the water such as a brownish color. But it is the oily residue floating on the top that determines if you are getting rid of unwanted toxins in the body. The more you use the machine the less you will have yucky build up in the water.

I highly recommend at least trying a detox foot bath once. There are now detox foot pads readily available at locations like walgreens and CVS, but the amount of toxins that can be expelled from your body through a detox foot bath is of no comparison.

Preventing High Blood Pressure Naturally

It's been a topic of increased conversation lately; how to reduce high blood pressure naturally. Each individual is different; but there are some common changes and supplements to take that can naturally reduce high blood pressure.

Most doctors recommend that patients try to restore a healthy blood pressure level by first making lifestyle changes. Here are some natural ways to prevent or reduce high blood pressure:

  • Stop smoking. Not only will this help keep your blood pressure in line, you'll also diminish your risk of cancer and cardiovascular diseases.
  • Shed excess pounds. There's a direct link between being overweight and having high blood pressure. The more overweight you are, the greater the risk. Start by making small changes. Cut 200 to 300 calories from your diet each day — about the equivalent of saying "no" to two chocolate chip cookies.
  • Decrease salt intake. High salt intake is linked to high blood pressure. You should consume no more than 2,000 milligrams of sodium per day (about one teaspoon of salt). The average American consumes twice that, often through canned soups, frozen dinners, soy sauce, pickles, olives and processed cheeses, which are loaded with sodium. Read food labels and select reduced-sodium products.
  • Add more fruits, vegetables and low-fat dairy products to your plate. Eat one additional fruit or vegetable with every meal. Shrink the size of your daily meat intake to six ounces, and designate at least two dinners a week as meat-free.
  • Limit alcohol consumption. Drink no more than one 12-ounce beer, one 5-ounce glass of wine or one swallow (1.5 ounces) of 80-proof whiskey if you’re a woman. Men can double these amounts. Anything more elevates blood pressure.
  • Exercise. First, get the green light from your physician. Then, slowly introduce aerobic exercise into your life, increasing the time and intensity at a pace that feels right, aiming for at least a 30-minute workout most days of the week.

I am a huge fan of diet changes to see significant positive results in lowering high blood pressure. Incorporating little fat, cholesterol, red meat, or sweets, but lots of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat or fat-free dairy products, this DASH diet takes its name from the comprehensive "Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension " study. The DASH diet has the greatest effect and after just 2 weeks individuals see results.

Why does DASH work? "While the diet is rich in vitamins and minerals that have been linked to lower blood pressure, it's not these nutrients alone but the whole dietary package that works," explains Eva Obarzanek, PhD, a research nutritionist at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute and a project officer for the DASH study.

Previous studies testing the blood pressure-lowering effects of supplements containing some individual nutrients were inconclusive. "It is possible that some nutrients have small effects individually, but when you get them all together in this diet, you see a significant effect on blood pressure," she says.

Though the DASH diet wasn't designed to promote weight loss, you can easily modify it so you'll trim down by cutting back on servings and substituting lower-calorie for higher-calorie food choices.

Shake Off Sodium

To get even better results, follow the DASH diet and cut back on sodium, Dr. Obarzanek suggests. A follow-up to the DASH study, called "DASH-Sodium," found that doing both lowered blood pressure more than following the diet alone. In the study, even people with normal blood pressure lowered their blood pressure when they cut back on sodium.

Cutting sodium means more than going easy on the saltshaker, which contributes just 15 percent of the sodium in the typical American diet. In addition to seasoning the foods you cook with spices, herbs, lemon, and salt-free seasoning blends, watch for sodium in processed foods, Dr. Obarzanek warns. Most of the sodium in your diet comes from processed foods, she says.

But since there's no way to tell whether any one individual is sodium sensitive, everyone should lower his sodium intake, says Dr. Obarzanek. How far? To 1,500 mg daily, about half the average American intake, she says. (Half a teaspoon of salt contains about 1,200 mg of sodium.

In addition to dietary and lifestyle changes- there are a few herbal remedies that are very helpful in supporting lowered blood pressure. Hawthorne berry, olive leaf, linden flower, bean pod and mistletoe herb all normalize high blood pressure. These 5 extracts aid in treating essential hypertension and its associated arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries). Herb Pharm combines all 5 in a cardiovascular tonic.

Also, raw onion and garlic have hypotensive action. The onions in raw form contain postaglandin A1 which reduces blood pressure and garlic contains ajoene which is an antithrombotic factor that inhibits the fibrinogen receptors of on blood platelets Eating lots of raw ginger will also positively impact high blood pressure.

Allergy Season 2008-- Beating Allergies Naturally with Homeopathic Medicine

Earlier this week I lost my voice as a result of intense allergies- especially after the summer afternoon storms have increased pollen and mold levels. I have lived in Florida for a significant portion of my life, but after moving up to New England- coming back has been very trying. I have found that what was a minor irritation before has grown into often full blown allergies-- sneezing, nose bleeds, hoarseness of the throat and watery eyes.

I've been able to combat my allergies using natural honey, but I also have felt the need to investigate homeopathic medicine to help ease the symptoms of my allergies. I have always had an adverse reaction to medications like benadryl and sudafed. I hate taking medications but found a natural relief for my seasonal allergies and hayfever through a homeopathic pharmacopoeia. I remember a time in college when I took benadryl before an exam and felt like my head was a big balloon floating about 20 feet above my body.

Homeopathy is a system of medicine which stimulates the body's own natural forces of recovery. The active ingredients in hommeopathic medicine are free from side effects. For many years homeopathic medicines have been used as a safe and effective means of treating ailments for thewhole family.

For my seasonal allergies and hayfever I use Nelsons Allergy & Hayfever pillules that contain Allium cepa 30c, Euphrasia 30c, and Sabadilla 30c.

Buy Nelsons Allergy & Hayfever for your allergies this season.

Mother's Milk: Natural Breast Feeding & Nursing Tips from a Mother of Two

A dear friend of mine, Vida Gomez has added a few thoughts to share with mothers out there who are seeking to breast feed and to make this experience one that creates a close bond with mother and child. For mothers who may be looking for breastfeeding tips and nursing suggestions- Vida is definitely one who can help frustrated and concerned moms.

I make milk and a lot of it. Although pregnancy was hard for me, nursing tends to be simple. I don’t follow any specific rules mentioned in this parenting book or that web-site. I read a lot and listened to the needs of my boys. As of today, I have worked full-time and collectively nursed 3 years—2 ½ more than the average working mom. Here’s my basic plan.

1. No clocks!
2. No plastic nipples!
3. Skin to skin.
4. I eat.
5. I take vitamins and drink water.

1. No clocks—I never worried how often my babies nursed or if they nursed for a certain amount of time on one side. I let them nurse until they were full, and then might switch sides if they wanted to eat more. I let them nurse whenever they wanted, and never looked at clocks.

2. No plastic nipples—I never let my babies take pacifiers, or drink from a bottle until nursing was well established—for me that meant 2 months. My babies tended to see plastic nipples as something to play with until mommy showed up again. They preferred water or juice from a cup if they had to drink something before I was back.

3. Skin to skin—my babies were often in a sling or wrap attached to me. They slept next to my bed and often in my bed. I held my babies as often as possible. This allowed to nursing whenever they wanted and nursing at night—often in my bed—since I was not around during the day.

4. I eat—Although, I don’t get to exercise the same way I did before baby number 2, within 6 months of his birth, I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight. I don’t diet either. I never eat anything low-fat or non-fat. What I do is eat fresh, non-processed foods. I eat homemade organic oatmeal every morning, fruit and veggies, meat, beans, fish, rice….I rarely eat anything from a box or a can that I just need to heat. I eat tons of free range eggs, raw cheese and milk if I can find them, and always have a soup with a homemade bone-based broth in the fridge instead. I have noticed that if I eat certain foods—liver, eggs, ox-tail soup, homemade chicken soup with meatballs—that my milk is more plentiful. I wonder that if mothers who had poor milk supply were told to nurse often, take a daily nap with their baby and given a carton of homemade Italian wedding soup—if they would have more milk.

5. I remember my multi-vitamin and try to have a bottle of water with me at all times. I know that even though I eat well, I am the mother of 2 children, work full-time and am a wife—which can lead to stress. I also try to nap with the kids when I can, play in the sand, play with LEGOs and hug my husband often. I’m sure that helps too.

Home Remedy Tips: Using Items Around the House to Improve your Health

Earlier this morning I received a really great email that contained some common and not so common homemade remedies for various ailments. It is a great way to use items around the house to cure just about any common health issue you may have. I thought these were helpful and thought you might too.

Arthritis Pain Relief
Mix 2 cups of Quaker Oats and 1 cup of water in a bowl and warm in the microwave for 1 minute. Cool slightly and apply the mixture to your hands for soothing relief from arthritis pain.

Blemishes
Cover the blemish with a dab of honey and place a Band-Aid over it. Honey kills the bacteria, keeps the skin sterile, and speeds healing. Works overnight.

Blisters
To disinfect a broken blister, dab on a few drops of Listerine, a powerful antiseptic.

Boils
Cover the boil with Hunt's Tomato Paste as a compress. The acid from the tomatoes soothes the pain and brings the boil to a head.

Bruises
Soak a cotton ball in white vinegar and apply it to the bruise for 1 hour. The vinegar reduces the blueness and speeds up the healing process.

Bug Killer
If menacing bees, wasps, hornets or yellow jackets get in your home and you can't find the insecticide, try a spray of Formula 409. Insects drop to the ground instantly.

Burns
Colgate toothpaste makes an excellent salve for burns.

Dog Odor
The next time your dog comes in from the rain, simply wipe him down with Bounce, or any dryer sheet. Instantly makes your dog smell springtime fresh!

Ear Mites
Eliminate Ear Mites with a few drops of Wesson corn oil in your cat's ear. Massage it in, then clean with a cotton ball. Repeat daily for 3 days. The oil soothes the cat's skin, smothers the mites, and accelerates healing.

Eyeglass Protection
To prevent the screws in eyeglasses from loosening, apply a small drop of Maybelline Crystal Clear nail polish to the threads of the screws before tightening them.

Fleas
Kill Fleas Instantly by adding a few drops of Dawn dishwashing liquid to your dog's bath. Shampoo thoroughly, then rinse well to avoid skin irritations. Good-bye fleas!

Headache
Drinking two glasses of Gatorade can relieve headache pain almost immediately -- without the unpleasant side effects caused by traditional "pain relievers."

Sore Muscles
Mix 1 Tablespoon of horseradish in 1 cup of olive oil. Let the mixture sit for 30 minutes, then apply it as a massage oil for instant relief for aching muscles.

Sore Throat
Just mix 1/4 cup of vinegar with 1/4 cup of honey and take 1 tablespoon six times a day. Vinegar kills bacteria.

Splinters
Just pour a drop of Elmer's Glue-All over the splinter, let dry, then peel the dried glue off the skin. The splinter sticks to the glue.

Stuffed Nose
Before you buy a high-priced inhaler filled with mysterious chemicals, try chewing on a couple of curiously strong Altoids peppermints. They'll clear up your stuffed nose.

Toenail Fungus
Get rid of unsightly toenail fungus by soaking your toes in Listerine mouthwash. The powerful antiseptic leaves your toenails looking healthy again.

Urinary Tract Infections
To cure urinary tract infections just dissolve two Alka-Seltzer tablets in a glass of water and drink it at the onset of the symptoms. It begins eliminating urinary tract infections almost instantly -- even though the product has never been advertised for this use.

Relieving Acne Naturally- Sulfur Based Soaps & Creams

There are many of us out there who have experienced occasional blemishes and breakouts that can be troublesome and challenging. There are those also who experience routine acne and even severe acne that is frustrating and embarrassing.

Many doctors prescribe a variety of drying pills and medications like the pill and facial creams but often the results are unsatisfying.

One of the best and oldest naturally occurring remedy for acne is Sulfur (Sulphur). It has been used in acne treatments since the days of Ancient Rome when people used to bathe in hot, sulfurous mineral water. As a chemical element, sulfur is odorless, but when combined with other elements it can have a strong, unpleasant smell. With the emergence of benzoyl peroxide in the 1920s, the focus turned to new chemicals, and sulfur was somewhat eclipsed by several other substances in the campaign against acne. Although slightly less popular, many acne products used today still include sulfur. So why is Sulfur so amazing for acne?

Sulfur is a keratolytic agent, which means that it encourages shedding of dead skin cells which could block pores if retained. It also has comedolytic effects, helping to heal pre-existing comedones and preventing formation of new ones. Even more popular is the combination of sulfur with sodium sulfacetamide, a sulfonamide that has antibacterial properties. Sulfonamides are thought to prevent bacterial growth through limiting key acids needed for their reproduction. Together, sulfur and sodium sulfacetamide are extremely effective in reducing inflammatory lesions and in preventing acne development.

Sulfur is also used in some over the counter acne medications. Sulfur is one of the oldest acne treatments, and reacts with the skin in such a way that it makes it dry, and peel. This works on acne by drying out the Sebum, and therefore, stopping the bacterial growth.

Many soaps and facial cleansers have sulfur in them. Sulfur is effective in getting rid of whiteheads and blackheads. It doesn’t work well against the more inflamed cystic acne. One of the drawbacks is that it can increase skin cell adhesion to the skin, and therefore help cause more pimples in the future. It is best to use a gentle exfoliator when using sulfur to treat acne.

I am a huge fan of the Enzymatic Therapy DermaKlear Akne Treatment soap with sulfur. It helps dry the acne blemishes while supply the skin with nutrients to treat and heal the skin to prevent scaring.

Get Enough Fiber in your Diet -- Tips to Maintaining the Health of your Colon

Fiber... it's often the dreaded topic we should all be talking about. How do you get enough fiber in your diet to lower your risk of colon cancer, lower your cholesterol levels, help detox your system and feel less sluggish and gain more energy?

Between fiber bars, lots of veggies, cereals packed with extra bran and fiber it is possible to get the daily dosage of 30-45g of fiber every day.

My friends and I are very open about our battles to get enough fiber in our diets. We are many who have the funny stories about eating the notorious Fiber One bars that cause a ridiculous amount of gas and bizarre noises that should never emit from the digestive tract.

My method is to supplement my diet with fiber each meal and even during snacks. I am a personal fan of Fiber One's Honey Oats cereal...it has 51% of fiber just in a cup of their cereal. I snack on Fiber Bars that are raw food fiber bars with 14 grams of fiber. I eat veggies during lunch as well as dinner and have switched to whole wheat grain breads and brown rice.

Other methods can include a Fiber Fusion type of dietary supplement that can be added to your protein shakes. One particular fiber product I use is Enzymatic Therapy Fiber Fusion- Daily Cleansing Fiber Incrediberry-Flavored Drink Mix. A teaspoon a day helps maintain regularity.
