Fall Allergies Season: Treat Sinus Infection Symptoms Naturally with a Neti Pot and Lymphatic Drainage Massage for Sinus Drainage with Colds and Flu

St Petersburg Florida Spa offers Natural Cold and Flu Therapies to Remedy Sinus Infections with Herbs, Homeopathy and Lymph Drainage Massage Therapy

Cold and Flu season is upon us as is the dreaded fall allergy season that yields sinus congestion, sinus infections and nasal drainage and stuffy heads.

Each year our clients and customers complain of this season with pangs of nasal congestion, post nasal drip, sore throats and cloudy heads.  And each year, I recommend two simple treatments to naturally treat and cure sinus infections....

1. Daily use of a Neti Pot

2. Lymph System Sinus Drainage Massage

What is a Neti Pot?

So many clients ask, what in the heck is a neti pot?

A neti pot is an ancient healing art of sinus drainage via nasal irrigation.  A neti pot is something that looks like a little tea pot for your nose.  It's a way of cleaning the sinuses to prevent sinus infections and allergies and helps improve breathing and sleep.

How do I use a Neti Pot?

Using a neti pot is often a hard concept for my clients.  The idea of putting water up ones nose doesn't sound too appealing.  It conjours up memories of swimming and getting water up the nose that was often painful. Some of my clients who balk at using the neti pot give it one try and once they feel comfortable and experience the immediate results, they get very comfortable with performing the neti pot routine daily.

Typically, to use the Neti pot or other nasal irrigation device you would mix about 16 ounces (1 pint) of lukewarm water with 1 teaspoon of sea salt.  Avoid using table salt, especially iodized table salt - it is harmful to the sinuses.

Some people add addition items to the pot - a few drops of betadine, colloidal silver and zinc. Use distilled, sterile, or previously boiled water to make up the irrigation solution.

Once you've filled the Neti pot, tilt your head over the sink at about a 45-degree angle. Place the spout into your top nostril, and gently pour the saline solution into that nostril.

The fluid will flow through your nasal cavity and out the other nostril.  Please wait to blow your nose for at least 10 minutes  You might get a little dripping and even some solution that may drain down your throat.  Blowing your nose will cause congestion and might cause damage to the ear canal and the tubes between the sinuses and the ears.

**Sometimes, for severely inflamed sinuses or deviated sinuses, some of the solution may stay in the nasal passages for a few hours.  If you bend down to tie your shoes or reach for something, it can be common for a few drops to flow out of your nose.

How does a neti pot work to cure a sinus infection?

The basic explanation of how the Neti pot works is that it thins mucus and helps flush it out of the nasal passages. Within the mucus are allergens from the environment and any beginnings of viral, bacterial and fungal invasions.

A more biological explanation for how the Neti pot works has to do with tiny, hair-like structures called cilia that line the inside of the nasal and sinus cavities.
These cilia wave back and forth to push mucus either to the back of the throat where it can be swallowed, or to the nose to be blown out. Saline solution can help increase the speed and improve coordination of the cilia so that they may more effectively remove the allergens and other irritants that cause sinus problems.

Saline solution and any natural herbals/homeopathic blends you add to the pot help clean and support healthy sinuses.  I've recommended daily Neti Pot to clients who have had frequent sinus infections, allergies and sinusitis and over a span of a few days- they've noticed major differences.  Some have not had any sinus troubles since using the neti pot.

Drain Sinus Naturally with Lymphatic Drainage Facial Massage

With lymph massage of the head and neck the sinuses can drain and decongest the lymphatic system.  Lymphatic drainage therapy concentrates on specific lymph nodes under the jaw line. The main lymph nodes for facelift massage are pea size and under the mandible. During a face massage, the lymphatic vessels and lymph nodes are stimulated to open and enhance circulatory and lymphatic flow.

Lymphatic drainage massage can be helpful in addressing a very wide range of conditions.  It can reduce fatigue, toxicity, menstrual cramps, cellulite, water retention and sinusitis and hay fever symptoms from allergies.  When an individual suffers from allergies, the immune system kicks in and it begins to react to the pollen, mold spores, fungal and viral exposure bombarding the body as foreign invaders.  The result in irritation and inflammation.  Lymphatic drainage massage allows the practitioner to, in a non-invasive manner, tap into the sinuses to relieve hayfever, stuffiness, congestion and irritation.

Sinus Drainage Massage is really the only option that helps to drain the sinuses but also helps enhance the immune system to prevent colds, flu and sinus infections.  It also helps the body do what it does best, heal and recover and will ease the symptoms of colds, flu and sinus infections.

Healthy Being Wellness Center and Lymphatic Drainage Therapist, Melissa Gallagher, offer Lymphatic Facial Drainage Massage to our clients in St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Tampa, Largo, Seminole and all three counties in our are: Pinellas, Hillsborough and Pasco.

A session is 60min in length and is $70.  Call our office to book your appointment today:  727-502-3464

Non Pharmacological Pain Management Clinics Ease Pain Naturally in St. Petersburg Fl 33702

St. Petersburg Florida and Pinellas county is a hot bed for pain management clinics and drug enhance pain management programs.  Not only is pain management medication abuse and addiction a major problem for the entire state of Florida -our county, Pinellas County, happens to be the highest ranking county in pain management clinics and individuals on prescription pain medications is alarming.

We receive calls and inquiries from our spa clients about ways they can combat pain....severe pain from spinal issues, herniated discs, car accidents, dental surgery, fibromyalgia, lupus, MS and the list goes on.  We have clients as young as 17 who have been prescribed legal narcotics for pain that could be alleviated in a natural, more body-agreeable ways.

Recently, I've begun working with an amazing client who was a victim of the pain management system.  Her story resonates with so many other clients who come to my naturopathic practice seeking an alternative to pain management medications. Many of our clients are seeking the natural detoxification from pain management meds.

I'd like to share today several recommendations for alternative options to pain management medications.  These alternatives are complimentary to your body and will not negatively or permanently impact your body and brain chemistry.

The one sad aspect that I see from pain management clinics and prescription pain meds is the alarming altering of an individuals bio chemistry.  The ability of these strong meds to change the hormone cycle, endanger the endocrine system - severely retarding the adrenals, thyroid and pituitary glands is overwhelming.  Often clients who are dealing with pain meds are also prescribed anti-depressants which further compounds the situation.

The common complain we here clients who choose natural and alternative pain management therapies is that the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or NSAIDs, don't agree with their stomachs, and they are very wary of stronger meds or have taken them and found it just isn't the route they would prefer to take on their healing journey.

At Healthy Being Wellness Center we offer a pain management program designed to modulate and eliminate the impact of pain from both short-term and chronic conditions. This plan is also very beneficial to athletes who are suffering from injuries related to their chosen sport. Treatments include a medical evaluation, sports massage, education, acupuncture, and more.

Neuromuscular Therapy is a gentle, respectful treatment that addresses the source of many kinds of soft tissue pain. It treats muscular imbalances and connective tissue restrictions that cause joints to wear unevenly, movements to be restricted, and pain to result. The process helps to reintegrate the person into the body, creating an understanding of how the body communicates and the dynamics involved

Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) is a gentle, rhythmical, precise massage therapy. MLD alleviates pain by greatly reducing the pain signals sent to the brain and also relaxes the sympathetic nervous system, thus helping to relieve tension caused by pain.

Acupuncture In acupuncture, disposable, stainless steel needles are used to stimulate the body's 14 major meridians, or energy-carrying channels, to resist or overcome illnesses and conditions by correcting these imbalances.
Acupuncture is also thought to decrease pain by increasing the release of chemicals that block pain, called endorphins.

Many acu-points are near nerves. When stimulated, these nerves cause a dull ache or feeling of fullness in the muscle. The stimulated muscle sends a message to the central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord), causing the release of endorphins (morphine-like chemicals produced in our own bodies during times of pain or stress). Endorphins, along with other neurotransmitters (body chemicals that modify nerve impulses), block the message of pain from being delivered up to the brain

Acupuncture isuseful as an accompanying treatment for many pain-related conditions, including: headache, low back pain, menstrual cramps, carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis and myofascial pain.

Reiki This unique style of healing together with aromatherapy and connecting the breath with the muscles, will clear out patterns of tensions and restrictions. This will bring forth a sense of calmness to the body, peace of mind and a renewed spirit

Counseling will provide you with the space needed to release painful emotions as well as an opportunity to learn new, adaptive coping skills to deal with life’s difficulties. You will learn techniques, such as guided imagery and other relaxation methods that specifically target your ability to shift attention away from the pain thereby reducing discomfort. Integrating these new coping skills will pave the path to emotional and physical pain relief, making each day pleasurable and pain-free

Here are several supplementation recommendations that should accompany the therapies outlined above:

  • Fish oil: For joint pain from arthritis or autoimmune disorders
What the science says: Digested fish oil breaks down into hormone-like chemicals called prostaglandins, which reduce inflammation. In one study, about 40 percent of rheumatoid arthritis patients who took cod-liver oil every day were able to cut their NSAID use by more than a third, Scottish scientists recently reported. People with neck and back pain have fared even better: After about 10 weeks, nearly two-thirds were able to stop taking NSAIDs altogether in a University of Pittsburgh study.

Dosage: Taking 1,000 mg is proven to help your heart, but you should up the dose for pain. For osteoarthritis, try 2,000 to 4,000 mg daily; for rheumatoid arthritis and autoimmune diseases associated with joint pain (such as lupus), consider a much higher dose of upwards of 8,000 mg daily

  • SAM-e (S adenosylmethionine): For osteoarthritis
What the science says: SAM-e is made from a naturally occurring amino acid and sold as capsules. Doctors aren't entirely sure why it tamps down pain, but it reduces inflammation and may increase the feel-good brain chemicals serotonin and dopamine.

Studies by the University of Maryland School of Nursing and the University of California, Irvine, showed that SAM-e was as effective as some NSAIDs in easing osteoarthritis aches; the California researchers found that SAM-e quashed pain by 50 percent after 2 months, though it took a few weeks to kick in. SAM-e produced no cardiovascular risks and fewer stomach problems than the conventional meds.

  • Aquamin: For osteoarthritis
What the science says: This red seaweed supplement is rich in calcium and magnesium. A preliminary clinical study showed that the ingredients may reduce joint inflammation or even help build bone, says David O'Leary of Marigot, Aquamin's Irish manufacturer. In a study of 70 volunteers published in Nutrition Journal, Aquamin users reduced arthritis pain by 20 percent in a month, and had less stiffness than patients taking a placebo.

Dosage: 2,400 mg a day (two capsules) of Aquamin in tablet form.

Minimize Breast Pain with Breast Massage and Lymph Drainage in St Petersburg Fl

Breast Massage for Greater Breast Health and Breast Cancer Prevention by Moving the Lymph

Gentle therapeutic breast massage and lymphatic breast care are ideal for maintaining healthy breasts, reducing pain, swelling and other breast problems.  Research shows that Regular massage can help prevent and detect breast cancer.   According to Susun S. Weed, author of "Breast Cancer? Breast Health! The Wise Woman Way," breast massage helps to prevent breast cancer by improving the immune system and moving lymph fluids through lymph nodes under the arms.

Research indicates that our lifestyle choices create and support our breast health as they do overall health and wellness. Food and supplements, exercise, eliminating exposure to toxins, eliminating smoking, wearing well fitted non-underwire bras, reducing stress and balancing hormones are a great start. What isn’t discussed in prevention and general health is breast massage and maintaining healthy breast lymph.

The lymphatic system is part your immune system.

The lymph (blood plasma and white blood cells) circulates through the body tissues transporting debris and toxins from tissue to the lymph nodes. The lymph nodes then enable the body to rid itself of these toxins.

Since breast tissue is well-supplied with lymphatics but lack sources of external compression (such as muscles or strong overlying fascia) to promote the natural lymphatic drainage found in most other body tissues, fluid has a tendency to accumulate in the breast. The light-touch specific approach of Lymph Drainage Therapy provides an ideal solution to fluid stagnation.

Lymph Drainage Therapy is an appropriate and practical gentle, light-touch, non-invasive breast massage technique that can be used by trained therapist for specific conditions and indications relating to breast care.

Lymphatic Breast Massage can help:
Mentrual Cycles:
  • Breast pain (mastodynia, mastalgia or mammalgia)
  • Swollen breasts

Breast Feeding or Pregnancy:
  • Engorgement
  • Sore nipples (transient or chronic)
  • Inflammation or infection: mastedeneitis, mastitis, yeast infection, infected Montgomery gland, etc
  • Milk stasis: plugged duct, filled duct, plugged nipple pore
  • Bruise, wound (nipples aereola, breast), fissures, ulceration, hemorrhages
  • Dermatitis: eczema, psoriasis
  • Stretch marks

Fibrocycstic Breast/ Non-malignant Lump:
  • Many nonmalignant lumps may resolve quickly with Lymph Drainage Therapy

Pre/Post Surgical Lymphatic Drainage
and Cosmetic Applications
  • Breast implant problems, post mastectomy, post lumpectomy, post tram flap, post lat flap, post breast reduction
  • Improvement in local venolymphatic circulation, removal of toxins, tissue reoxygenation, regeneration of skin tissue, skin tonification, and mastoptosis (breast sagging)
  • Scars (acute and chronic)

Other Applications Related to Breast Health:
  • Decrease hot flashes
  • Fibrocystic Breasts
  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • Early breast cancer detection
  • Self care drainage techniques given by your therapist (self massage, dry body brushing, change in type of bra worn)
  • Thermography has detected metabolic changes within the breast tissue or lymphatic congestion

What to Expect from Breast Massage:

Your Lymphatic Drainage therapist has an accurate knowledge of the specific anatomy, physiology and related hand techniques involved so the practitioner can attune to the precise rhythm, direction, depth and quality of the lymph flow. Heavy pressure will NOT be applied to breast tissue. Deep pressure may not only hurt (the client) but may destroy the few suspensory ligaments (Cooper’s ligament) and elastic fibers which prevent sagging (mastoptosis).

Whatever lymph territory the therapist is working on, the lymph will be sent to the group of lymph nodes responsible for draining of that area. In the case of the breast, most of the lymphatics (over 90%) drain to the armpit lymph nodes. Lymphatics will usually always be softly stimulated in the neck, armpits (axillas), abdomen, breast mammary tissue, retromammary space (behind the breast), groin, and ribcage when receiving a breast massage session.

Our therapists respect and honor your trust at all times. Proper draping is always provided for our client’s comfort and security during breast massage. In fact, we use a specialized modality of lymphatic drainage massage that does not require physical touch.  Instead we use a tool that helps to massage and move lymph fluid in both the superficial and deeper lymphatic system.  This allows us to offer a pain free, pressure free, hands free breast massage.  Unless there are scars on the breast that require work, with a clients permission, we may work more directly on the breast.

Clients are required to sign a release form given our therapists permission to conduct breast work.

Clients may always stop a massage for any reason at any time during the treatment process and this request will be honored with no questions asked.

Think you may be experiencing something that requires lymph breast massage intervention?  Please call our office for more information or to set up your initial breast health assessment.

Detoxify you Body Today with an Ionic Detox Foot Bath Services in St. Petersburg Fl at Healthy Being Wellness Center 727-502-3464

Foot Bath Spa for Foot Detox

Healthy Being Wellness Center offers detox foot spa services, a holistic way of approaching disease through saturation of the blood, tissues cells and organs with ions. The Detox foot spa creates a similar environment as a walk along a beach, only more powerful, because your feet are in direct contact with the ions being made in the water.

These naturally stimulating and relaxing sessions are based on ionization of water and osmosis to draw toxins from the body.  One of the latest developments in the detox field is the detox foot spa. It works by sending a small current of energy through the body to energize the body and help it return to its natural state of energy and balance. The body can also absorb negative ions produced by the detox foot spa through the feet.

How does the Detox Foot Spa Work?

Detox Foot Spas operate through a process called electrolysis. This is done by generating the proper amount of current in the water causing the water molecules to divide producing negative ions. Once the negative ions are present in the water, the body absorbs these ions through osmosis

Based on Bioenergetics, it creates an ion energy field similar to that found in the human body. This stimulates cellular energy and enhances the body's ability to cleanse itself internally and naturally at an increased rate, restoring and normalizing the correct pH balance and energy levels.
The ionization process of the Detox foot spa pulls toxins out of your body through your elimination routes ( colon, skin, breath, urine).  Ions energize the body and neutralize a myriad of toxins. These neutralized microscopic particles then pass easily through the skin and tissue and are deposited in the water or sloughed naturally through sweat, bile and urine pathways.  Most people are shocked at the different colors that the water will turn, even after just a few minutes of using the foot bath.

The water changes colour regardless of whether there is a person’s feet in it or not. This is due to the reaction of the copper array and the polarisation of solids in the water. However, there will normally be 2-3 times more cellular debris in the water when combined with a person’s feet. The toxins in the body are re-ionized at the molecular level and react with the copper array. They produce coloured debris in the water which can be black, green, brown, yellow, white or blue. The colour and amount of debris will depend on the person’s energy state and toxicity levels before each treatment. Water analysis documentation from several treatments has shown a dramatic increase in metals in the water after a treatment.

Healthy individuals often feel more energy, and experience a greater feeling of well-being.

Patients with pain, edema, gout, headaches, and swollen joints have often reported immediate relief.

Other patients with arthritis, allergies, lymph edema, neuralgia and other symptoms have experienced relief and benefits with multiple treatments.

Why Schedule a Detox Foot Bath Treatment?

Ion cleanse detoxification accelerates change in the body. Aging and disease states are characterized by a diminishing anabolic capacity and an increasing catabolic capacity. Toxic buildup of cellular waste and debris is the inevitable outcome of these trends. Environmental toxins, heavy metals in water we drink and food we eat, even the air we breathe can overwhelm our own body systems. The ongoing periodic detoxification is essential to maintain health and avoid disease.

St Petersburg Day Spa offers Vitamin C Facials an Anti Wrinkle Facial for Anti-Aging, Sun Damage Prevention, Wrinkle and Fine Line Reversal

As summer comes to an end, we have a lot of clients booking anti-aging facials and advanced skin care services that combat the effects of long beach days, sun burns and inadequate SPF coverage.  Living in Florida, sun damage is almost inevitable and it's very important that we take good care of our skin.

I'd like to share with you one of my favorite facials on our Spa Menu: the uber Anti-Aging Vitamin C Facial.

What is a Vitamin C Facial?

Our Vitamin C Facial is designed for tired skin showing signs of atrophy and loss of elasticity, this intensive Vitamin C treatment stimulates vital functions and repairs cell damage. Skin shows immediate improvement in tone and firmness. Excellent for sun damage and premature signs of aging.

What are the benefits of a Vitamin C facial?

  • Reduces skin pigmentation
  • Restores elasticity and firmness
  • Prevents skin damage caused by exposure to sun, smog, pollution and stress
  • Helps diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Helps repair damaged cells and prevent future skin damage
Using Vitamin C topically, it is proven to be an extremely effective guard against wrinkles.  Exposing vitamin C to the skin dramatically increases the synthesis of collagen, an important structural protein in the skin. This property, as well as the effects of vitamin C on external damage, maintain healthier and more elastic skin with improved skin texture.

Antioxidant vitamin C is the most effective way to repair and prevent aging as well as free radical damage resulting from environmental exposure.  Vitamin C restores skin texture, elasticity, and firmness while fading pigmentation problems and diminishing fine lines and wrinkles.

Anti Aging Effects of Vitamin C Facials

The purest form of Vitamin C, ascorbic acid, is biologically tested to be beneficial for human skin.  High concentration of vitamin C is actually derived from plants that help in the human skin's aging process. The potential benefits of Vitamin C on face are diminishing effects of age spots, radiant facial complexion, smoother skin, restoration of lost collagen and reduction in wrinkles. Vitamin C is vital for overall skin health and optimal scar healing. Vitamin C plays a vital role in diminishing the effects ultra violet light damage.

Unfortunately, the body does not produce vitamin C on its own. The only way to ensure our skin gets enough vitamin C is to make sure we include enough in our diet and by using skin care products that contain vitamin C in a stable form.
Studies have found that Vitamin C can increase collagen production, protect against damage from UVA and UVB rays, correct pigmentation problems, and reverse inflammatory skin conditions and early skin cancers.

At Healthy Being Wellness Center- we offer several different Vitamin C Facials.  We offer a Vitamin C Facial, a Vitamin C Peel and a Vitamin C Laser Facial.

Please check out our website for more great anti-aging services.

Massage to Induce Labor Naturally During End of Term Pregnancy

Massage to Start Labor:  How to Use Massage to Induce Labor Naturally

If you are hearing yourself thinking or saying "Get this Baby out of me!"  or are dealing with at at full-term or over due baby and your little one is all nestled and comfy in your body, a massage just may do the trick to jump start your labor and induce labor naturally.

At Healthy Being Wellness Center and Holistic Day Spa, we offer pregnancy massage.  For some at term or post term mothers, we can provide specific massage services to help induce labor.  Massage, acupressure and reflexology can all be very effective for women who are seeking to induce labor.

If you need help getting your labor started, the answer may be in your feet. Reflexology has been shown to help induce labor and reduce pain during childbirth. In fact, more and more nurses are beginning to learn this specialized type of foot massage and are using it in delivery rooms around the world to ease their patients’ discomfort and reduce the length of labor.

Here are a few points we will address during your massage:

Inside Heel. Press this point just inside the heel of each foot. You can’t mistake it when you have found the right spot because it should be quite tender.

Arch of the Foot. This point will also be tender, and it is located in the arch of the foot just in front of your heel. At no time should the pain be very intense, however. Your pressure should be firm, but apply less pressure at first if it hurts too much. You will no doubt find that as the tension releases, you can begin to apply more pressure and release deeper tension. This point is also very effective for dealing with the pain of intense contractions while you’re in the delivery room. Be sure your partner knows this one!

Between the Big and Second Toes. This point is about one finger-width below the space between your big toe and your second toe. Again, when you have found the right spot, it will be tender.

Thumb Point. This point is probably the most effective one for inducing labor. It affects the pituitary gland, which releases oxytocin, the natural hormone in your body which is responsible for uterine contractions. Press firmly on the center of the thumb for at least three minutes. Then, switch to your other thumb.
Reflexology is also great during childbirth, and your partner will feel more helpful in the delivery room if he has learned these techniques. Applying pressure to any of these points will help to reduce your pain while keeping your contractions frequent and successful.

As a Naturopathic Physician, I often recommend expecting mom's begin taking Evening Primrose oil 1000mg 3 times a day after 37 weeks. And cranberry leaf tea 2 cups 3 times a day.

Evening primrose oil helps to soften the cervix by providing prostaglandins and the components the body needs to make prostaglandins. This can help to ripen a cervix to help encourage labor or to speed labor.  You can even massage evening primrose oil onto the cervix to help it soften.

If you live in St Pete, Tampa, Clearwater or in the Tampa Bay area- we can help you with an assortment of services that will help induce your labor naturally and safely.  We have a trained and certified staff of massage therapists, acupuncture physicians and hypno birthing experts who work weekly with expecting moms.

Lymphatic Drainage Massage is the Best Way to Heal Facial Brusing after Surgery for Dental Work, Face LIfts, Neck Liposuction, Chin Implants and Nose Jobs and its available in St. Petersburg Florida at Healthy Being Wellness Center in St Petersburg Florida

Lymphatic Drainage Massage Minimizes Facial Bruising and Facial Swelling Post Surgery

Frequently we receive calls from plastic surgeons, nurses and outpatient surgery centers who focus on medically necessary and cosmetic surgery on the face regarding lymphatic drainage massage post surgery, post liposuction, post face lift, post dental work and post nose job surgery.  Daily they send their patients to our wellness center for lymphatic drainage massage to reduce their patient's swelling, bruising, scar tissue and speed in their healing process post surgery.

Our resident Lymphatic Massage expert and Certified Lymphatic Drainage Specialist, Melissa Gallagher,  offers an assortment of lymphatic drainage therapy protocols, techniques and procedures that easily, quickly and painlessly minimizes facial bruising, facial swelling and minimizes scarring and reduces the redness of scars from 1,2,5,10, 15+ years post surgery

What is Lymphatic Drainage?

Lymph Drainage Therapy alleviates numerous conditions related to swelling, water retention, edema, lymphedema and physical traumas.  It also addresses pregnancy, including engorgement, sore nipples (transient, chronic), plugged ducts, wounds, fissures, ulcerations, bruises and dermatitis (eczema).

Lymphatic drainage therapy also can provide relief from chronic inflammation and pre- and post-surgical applications, and can be used for cosmetic applications, such as mastoptosis, scars and traumas.

The lymphatic drainage therapy Melissa Gallagher uses is a specialized lymphatic drainage therapy tool, called the Lymph-star pro which uses a light frequency/sound therapy to not only stimulate the flow of your lymphatic system but it also helps break up protein clusters that can cause blockages and clog up the Lymphatic System.

Whilst working on the Lymph, the treatment also stimulates the blood flow and helps prevent the blood cells from sticking together. Oxygen and nutrients can therefore be delivered to the body tissues more effectively.

For individuals recovering from cosmetic surgery on the face - enhanced circulation and oxygen flow speeds recovery.  It's effect is similar to hyperbaric therapies which speed wound healing through the enhancement of oxygen to the cells of the body.

What are the benefits of Lymphatic Drainage Therapy for post surgery recovery?

Science now shows that Lymphatic Drainage Therapy, or electro lymphatic drainage therapy as this therapy is often called, helps the body responds to certain frequencies in a way that allows a natural health professional like Melissa to:
  • Clear lymph congestion
  • Reduces swelling and fluid retention from trauma, surgery or lymphedema
  • Speeds wound healing
  • Oxygenates the cells
  • Detoxifies the skin cells minimizing scar tissue build up
  • Reduce fibrocystic conditions
  • Promote collagen fiber production
  • Reduces fine lines, minimizes wrinkles
  • Reduces the appearance of cellulite
  • Promote overall wellness

How does Lymphatic Drainage Massage reduce facial bruising and facial swelling after a surgery?

Lymphatic Drainage Massage moves congested or stagnant lymphatic fluid that builds around surgery and incision sites.  By moving this congested fluid, lymphatic massage helps to enhance the circulation and flow of congested cellular matter - often excess blood from surgeries.
Clients will see a significant difference in the swelling and puffiness of their face, chin or neck after just one treatment.  Facial bruising disappears after 3-4 treatments depending on the extent of capillary trauma.

We recommend clients visit our center every 2-3 days for a series of treatments post surgery.  We see clients just a day after their face lifts, nose surgeries and liposuction surgeries.

We can work with and around ports and drains and the therapy is pain-free.

How much does lymphatic drainage massage cost?

A single, 60min session is $70.

Most clients receive multiple treatments.  We offer package specials:
3 pack- $195
6 pack - $360
12 pack - $708

$ 50 Hot Stone Massage in St. Petersburg Fl 33702 727-502-3464

Our Most Popular Massage Service:
Hot Stone Massage

What is a Hot Stone Massage?

Hot stone massage is a variation on classic massage therapy. Heated smooth, flat stones are placed on key points on the body. The massage therapist may also hold the stones and use them to massage certain areas of the body.

How does Hot Stone Massage work?

The hot stones are usually made of basalt, a type of rock that is rich in iron, so they retain heat. River rocks are normally used because they are so smooth - they have been smoothed over time by the river's current.
The stones are immersed in water and heated in an electric heating device until they are within a certain temperature range. The stones may be placed at specific points on the back, in the palms of the hand, or between the toes.
The heat warms and relaxes the muscles, which allows the therapist to apply deeper pressure, if desired.
The warmth of the hot stones improves circulation and calms the nervous system.
Some massage therapists place stones on points that are thought to be energy centers of the body to rebalance the body and mind.

Why do people get Hot Stone Massage?

Many people find the warmth of the hot stones to be comforting and get it for relaxation.
Hot stone massage is suited to people who tend to feel chilly or who have cold feet. It's also suited for people who have muscle tension but prefer a lighter massage. The heat relaxes muscles, allowing the therapist to work the muscles without using deep pressure.
People also get hot stone massage for a variety of health conditions:
  • Back pain and aches
  • Poor circulation
  • Osteoarthritis and arthritis pain
  • Stress, anxiety and tension
  • Insomnia
  • Depression

How doe the Hot Stones feel?

The hot stones are never rough. They are always flat and smooth. The hot stones used on the back are about the size of a large egg, only flat.
The stones are heated in an electrical heating unit that either provides a temperature reading or has an adjustable thermostat control.
The massage therapist always holds the stones first before touching them to your body, which ensures that the temperature will not be too hot. Everyone, however, has their own comfort range. Be sure to speak up if the stones are too hot for you.
Cool marble stones are occasionally used during a treatment, particularly if there is inflammation.

What can I expect during my Hot Stone Massage?

The massage therapist often begins by applying oil to the body, which allows the hot stones to glide smoothly along the muscles. You are lying face down, and the massage therapist often then uses the hot stones to massage the back.
After the hot stones have relaxed the muscles, the massage therapist may put down the stones and use his or her hands to directly massage the skin.
The hot stones may then be placed back on to the body and left for a short period of time.
You are then asked to turn over onto your back. The massage therapist may place small hot stones between your toes or in the palm of your hand and repeats the sequence.

Difference between Deep Tissues Massage and Therapeutic Massage at Healthy Being Wellness Center in St. Petersburg Florida

Are you looking for a therapeutic massage or a deep tissue massage in St. Petersburg?

Every day we receive calls from massage customers seeking massage services but are not quite sure which is appropriate for them.  I thought I'd share with you a few massage services and how to know which one will help you address your goal of pain relief, relaxation, tension reduction and optimum healing.

There are several different types of therapeutic massage in addition to deep tissue massage, such as:

Many therapists will use a combination of techniques depending on what your body needs. In addition, therapists will often take additional classes in different techniques

Different Types of Massage Services at Healthy Being Wellness Center

Relaxation or Swedish Massage: Use of 5 basic massage strokes: petrissage, effleurage, compression, friction and percussion along with joint mobilization.
Swedish Massage stimulates the skin and nervous system while at the same time relaxing the nerves themselves. As it can help reduce emotional and physical stress it is often recommended as part of a regular program for stress management. It also has specific clinical uses in a medical or remedial therapy.

Neuromuscular Massage:  Uses advanced concepts in pressure therapy to break the stress-tension-pain cycle. It aims to relax muscle so that circulation can increase and the body will return to normal neuromuscular integrity and balance.
Deep Tissue: releases chronic patterns of tension through deep pressure on contracted areas. It focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. Deep tissue massage is great at breaking down scar tissue and getting your blood circulating, but it may not be what you need on a particular day. A good therapist will apply the specific techniques and the right amount of pressure to address your need, and sometimes that’s a lighter touch.
Therapeutic Massage:  Therapeutic massage is a general term that describes any type of massage modality that helps relieve pain, reduce stress, and work on a specific problem—such as a frozen shoulder. People tend to assume therapeutic massage means deep tissue massage, and that they will get a very strong massage. But this is not always the case.
Myofascial Release: This specialized therapy evaluates and treats restrictions in the body's contractile connective tissues (muscles) and non-contractile supportive connective tissues (fascia) by the application of gentle traction, pressures and positioning. Fascia is a complex supportive web throughout the body affecting all components of the musculoskeletal, nervous and visceral (organ) systems. It surrounds groups of muscle fibers, and entire muscle groups and organs.
Myofascial release techniques are used to coax muscles in spasm to relax, and break adhesions in the fascia. Bodies respond to these therapies by releasing tension that has been stored in the fascia, thus allowing more functional flexibility and mobility of the muscles, fascia and associated structures.
Trigger Point Therapy: Applies concentrated finger pressure to “trigger points” or painful irritated areas in muscles too break the pain-spasm-pain cycle and restore circulation. These are pain-relief techniques to alleviate muscle spasms and cramping. The therapist locates and deactivates `trigger points', which are often tender areas where muscles have been damaged or acquired a re-occurring spasm or `kink' that worsens painfully when aggravated.
The major goals are to reduce spasm inducing new blood flow into the affected area. The spasms are partly maintained by nervous system feedback (pain-spasm-pain) cycle. Spasms also physically reduce blood flow to the trigger point area (ischemia), reducing oxygen supplied to the tissues and increasing the spasm. Pressure is applied to trigger points, for a short time (between about 7 to 10 seconds per point), which can be momentarily painful but is greatly relieving.
People with acute or chronic muscle tension and the associated pain are likely to benefit greatly from trigger point massage treatment.
Pregnancy Massage: A pregnant woman can enjoy several benefits from this type of massage. For starters, it can help them relax during a time where stress can cause them more harm than usual. It can also provide relief of cramps, muscular discomfort and pain in the joints.
Walking around with the added weight from a pregnancy can irritate knees, hips and the lower back, so massage therapy can make it easier for a woman to get around and handle the extra weight. It can also reduce swelling common during pregnancy.

The healthier a mother-to-be remains throughout the pregnancy, the less likely she is to have intense labor pain. There are different types of massage therapy for many different situations, but pregnancy massage techniques are very specific for the safety of mother and child.
Craniosacral Massage: A gentle, non-invasive manipulative technique, this therapy encourages your own natural mechanisms to improve the functioning of your brain and spinal cord to dissipate the negative effects of stress, promote good health, and enhance resistance to disease.
Acupressure: System of finger pressure massage based on Oriental healing concepts which treat points along energy lines or meridians in order to release blockages and allow energy to flow freely.
Hot Stone Massage: This massage incorporates warmed basalt stones that improves the circulation of the nervous system and it will help relax the muscles especially the tired and stressful muscles you have from work. It is very soothing because the heat from the stones will transport through the key points of your body to help in proper circulation of the blood.

Sports Massage: Sports massage has different forms depending on the intention for the work. Pre-event is a warm-up to prepare athlete for event. Post-event provides a cool down – return body to homeostasis and speed recovery time.

One of the main uses of sports massage is to make sure muscles do not tighten up or form knots. Knots in muscle can lead to pulls, strains and tears, and obviously pain and discomfort. By keeping muscles relaxed before competition you can avoid injuries during an event. Post-event massage will help to prevent muscles from tightening, causing pain and being unable to compete later.
During training, treatment allows one to maintain extensive workouts and training regimens while minimizing discomfort and risk of injury. And when it comes to rehabilitation of injuries, sports massage helps with range of motion, inflammation and circulation, similar to some other types of massage.

Sports massage has become a major part of professional athletics these days, in everything from Baseball to Mixed Martial Arts. In fact, athletes in combat and other sports that require repetitive motion in either training or competition are perfect candidates for sports massage, even non-professional athletes. One of our more famous sports massage clients is pro-tennis athlete, Serena Williams.

Thai Yoga Massage: A form of bodywork which combines a series of assisted stretching, assisted Yoga poses, compression, rocking and point work along energy lines. It is performed fully clothed on the floor on a matt.
Lymphatic Drainage Massage: Lymphatic massage is used to help bolster the immune system, cleanse the body of toxins and maintain healthy muscle and skin tissue. The lymphatic system works with other parts of the human body to handle waste removal on a cellular level.  The flow of lymph in the human body can experience blockages. When this happens, skin can dry out and tissue does not receive the proper nutrients. Lymphatic massage is a specific technique designed to increase circulation and the flow of lymph. As a result, waste removal is more efficient and tissue receives more fluids and nutrients.

By eliminating these blockages, one can avoid dry and damaged skin and weakened muscle tissue. Also, since the lymphatic system affects the human body's immune system, lymphatic massage can reduce the frequency of colds, joint aches, fatigue, arthritis, acne and many other ailments by helping to remove toxins from the body.
Lymphatic and other types of massage therapy are often used for pregnant women, cancer patients and people with already weakened immune systems to avoid infections or illness.
Reiki: A form of energy work where hands are held over energy centers of the body with the intention for healing to occur where needed.

Benefits of Deep Tissue Massage

Most of our clients are interested in deep tissue massage, and that makes sense because it is a great way to manage pain. Deep tissue massage—as well as the other therapeutic massage methods—can give you a lot of relief from chronic pain. Many of our clients come in for frozen shoulder treatment and neck pain—two side effects of working on computers all day.

Deep Tissue Side Effects

Many people want to know what the side effects of deep tissue massage are. That’s a great question, and it varies from person to person—and it can even vary for you depending on what’s going on in your body the day you get a massage. Typically, people may feel more muscle soreness for a day or two after the massage, especially if the therapist gives you a strong massage. A deep tissue massage shouldn’t cause horrible pain—and if it does you need to tell your therapist you need less pressure. However, if they’ve been working your muscles, you will probably feel it as the toxins leave your body.
